How the character finder works
- Upload a screenshot where the character appears in a scene from the anime.
- AniTrace identifies the anime — title, episode, and exact timestamp — by matching the frame against episodes.
- Browse the main cast. Under the result you will see the anime's main and supporting characters with their pictures and names. Tap one to open their AniList page with their full profile and voice actors.
If the character you are looking for is not in the first few faces, use Full cast to see every character in the series on AniList.
What it can and cannot do
To be upfront: AniTrace does not run face recognition on your image. It identifies the scene, and from that the anime and its cast. In practice that answers “who is this?” for almost any screenshot taken from an episode or movie.
- Works well: screenshots, reaction images, and GIF frames taken from the anime itself.
- Works sometimes: heavily cropped faces — use a wider frame if you can.
- Does not work: fan art, cosplay photos, manga panels, or AI-generated pictures, because they are not frames from an episode. For fan art, an art search engine such as SauceNAO is a better fit.
Tips to identify the character faster
- Use a frame where the character is clearly visible, not mid-motion.
- Check the timestamp and preview clip, then compare faces in the cast list.
- Side characters may only appear in the full cast list on AniList.

The character links open AniList, which lists each character's Japanese and English voice actors.
Is the anime character finder free?
Yes — free, no sign-up. Character data comes from AniList.
